Bridgestone enters the Formula E tyre circuit

Bridgestone will embark on a new journey as the sole tyre supplier for the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, the world’s leading all-electric motorsport championship, from the 2026/27 Season.

The upcoming Formula E season will see the introduction of the new GEN4 racing car, which sets a new benchmark for speed, sustainability and innovation in motorsport.

Boasting unprecedented acceleration, high torque, and permanent active All-Wheel Drive, it’s the fastest (top speed of 335 km/h) and most powerful (peak power of 815bhp) car in Formula E history. By providing innovative “POTENZA” tyres that maximise the performance of GEN4, Bridgestone will support dynamic and exciting races.

On 30 September, the Bridgestone Formula E World Premiere was held in Rome, Italy. By entering Formula E, a cutting-edge platform, Bridgestone will further refine its technology and enhance its product and manufacturing capabilities. Working with various partners, Bridgestone advances sustainability initiatives across the entire value chain to create social value.

Together with global motorsport fans and partners, Bridgestone will share the excitement and emotions of racing and passionately communicate its spirit to the world, continuing to contribute to the development of a motorsport culture, full of challenge and innovation for the future.

The GEN4 boasts extraordinary performance, including astonishing acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 1.8 seconds, a top speed of 335 km/h, a staggering 600kW (815bhp) of peak power delivering high torque, and permanent active All-Wheel Drive. As a result, the requirements for tyres are higher than ever before.

To meet these high-performance requirements, Bridgestone has developed the “POTENZA GEN4” tyre. “POTENZA GEN4” features high grip to maximise vehicle performance, wide adaptability to diverse road and weather conditions worldwide, and durability to maintain high performance from the start to the end of races.

Additionally, Bridgestone has recently developed the “POTENZA GEN4 for TYPHOON TYRE” rain tyre, which enables stable driving even in heavy rain. “POTENZA GEN4 for TYPHOON TYRE” provides excellent grip performance even in wet conditions with a large amount of water on the road.

By supplying these two types of tyres, “POTENZA GEN4” and “POTENZA GEN4 for TYPHOON TYRE,” Bridgestone will passionately support the excitement of Formula E racing in all road and weather conditions.

For the GEN4 tyres, Bridgestone has achieved a 65 per cent ratio of recycled and renewable materials allocation to every tyre by using raw materials such as carbon black derived from pyrolysis oil of end-of-life tyres and silica derived from rice husks.

The natural rubber used is sourced from supply chains that have undergone due diligence by Bridgestone, comply with the GPSNR Assurance System, and are verified by a third party. Furthermore, to achieve carbon neutrality in tyre manufacturing, 100% renewable energy is allocated for both heat and electricity used in production, and CO₂ emissions are able to be reduced by promoting low-carbon transportation for logistics.

In addition, Bridgestone is advancing sustainability initiatives across its entire value chain through co-creation with partners, including initiatives such as chemical recycling of end-of- life tyres.

Yasuhiro Morita, Global CEO and Representative Executive Officer of Bridgestone Corporation, says: “Our return to the FIA World Championship is an exciting re-entry that embodies Bridgestone’s history of passion and innovation.

“Under our Mission “Serving Society with Superior Quality,” we have continued to push the limits with an insatiable quest for performance and a sense of responsibility for a better future through motorsport activities. On the supreme stage of Formula E, we will further evolve the balance of performance and sustainability and pioneer a new future for mobility. Together with organisers, teams, drivers, partners, and fans, we look forward to creating a new future.”

Jeff Dodds, CEO, Formula E adds: “We are delighted to welcome Bridgestone to Formula E as our sole tyre supplier for the 2026/27 Season and beyond. Combining rich motorsport heritage with cutting-edge sustainable innovation, Bridgestone is a fitting partner as we embark on this exciting new era. The GEN4 car represents the pinnacle of sustainable motorsport design, and we look forward to working with Bridgestone as we continue to redefine electric racing and lead the race for progress both on and off the track.”
