First dedicated OTR tyre recycling facility in Australia

Tyrecycle is currently transforming Off-the-Road (OTR) tyre recycling in Australia and recently opened the country's first dedicated OTR tyre recycling plant in Port Hedland, Western Australia, with a capacity to process 30,000 tonnes of mining tyres annually.
The facility provides a mine-to-processing service, creating new value streams from end-of-life tyres, which were previously stockpiled or buried. Whilst a second, smaller facility in East Rockingham will serve as a secondary processing site to further refine the materials.
The new facility, located in the Pilbara mining region and positioned at the epicentre of mining operations provides instant and efficient tyre recycling processing. The plant can process up to 30,000 tonnes of OTR tyre a year with Tyrecycle aiming to create new value streams from end-of-life materials to effectively reduce landfill waste and support a circular economy.
The facility also provides a mine-to-processing solution for the mining sector to simplify tyre management and further enhance their sustainable credentials. Also addressing the growing challenge of waste from end-of-life OTR mining tyres.
Whilst the facility in East Rockingham acts a secondary (back-up) processing plant for materials from the Port Hedland site which are then refined for use in roads or as an alternative fuel source. Tyrecycle currently works with partners including DomeShelter Australia to create purpose-built structures for their operations in the Pilbara environment.
The development of both these facilities represents a major step forward for Australia’s circular economy, transforming the previously problematic waste stream into an innovative source of valuable materials.
