Breaking ground at the New Hungarian Hankook Manufacturing facility
Hankook Tyre Europe has commenced on the expansion of its European production plant in Rácalmás, Hungary. The building phase, which is scheduled for completion in 2027, will result in a new increased production line for truck and bus tires at the site, with an annual capacity of up to 800,000 units.
The Rácalmás plant has been in operation since 2007 and is an important part of Hankook’s growing expansion in Europe as the plant currently has a production capacity of 17 million tires for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles.
The new facility will also employ the latest technological advancements in tire manufacturing, including sustainable, renewable and recycled materials as well as 3D additive manufacturing techniques for tread molds. The Production Plant has also attained ISCC Plus certification, which underlines the sustainability of the site’s overall environmental approach.
In due course, this new Hungarian manufacturing facility will eventually produce Hankook’s premium products for long-haul and mixed applications, SmartLine AL/DL 50 and SmartFlex AL/DL 51, as well as tyres from the new e-Smart series, specifically designed for electric commercial vehicles.

This latest production line will enable Hankook to meet the ongoing demanding needs of European customers with additional products for all tyre sectors including long-distance and regional transportation right through to construction site and winter use.
We are very happy with our progress so far as we were able to start the building works as planned and preparatory soil construction is underway. Once the new production line is complete, we will be manufacturing truck and bus tires for the European market in Europe, which will effectively shorten our transport routes. With this important investment, we are significantly strengthening our European business locations and creating more jobs.
