The company is actively researching and evaluating a wide range of alternative materials, including bio-based resources, recycled content and recovered materials from end-of-life tyres. This approach supports Kumho’s long-term vision of reducing environmental impact while maintaining the high standards of quality and performance expected by customers worldwide.

Kumho’s research programmes are focused on three key areas – renewables, recycling, and reducing. For renewables, Kumho is working on bio-based alternatives to legacy materials such as bio-based SBR, rice husk silica, and bio-based resins. For recycling, Kumho’s scientists are exploring the use of end-of-life tyres, while reducing covers both weight-saving technologies and innovative approaches to rolling resistance to reduce fuel consumption.

The objective is to move towards 100% sustainable materials, with each advancement representing another step towards reducing reliance on fossil-based resources and creating a more circular approach to manufacturing.

By 2045, Kumho aims to help create a tyre industry where sustainable materials play a central role in tyre production, contributing towards net-zero carbon ambitions while reducing waste throughout the value chain.
