Michelin has launched a new truck-specific GPS feature within its Truckfly App which is currently available for professional drivers throughout Europe as an innovative navigational system designed to deal with the limitations of standard GPS software through accounting for heavy goods vehicle’s specific constraints.
Specific features include customised routing through tailored routes based on a truck’s specific features, such as height, length, and cargo type (e.g., hazardous materials). Therefore, helping drivers avoid restricted areas, unsuitable bridges, and other regulatory obstacles.
Real-time updates with an app that delivers exact updates directly to a driver's smartphone, which is more agile than traditional, fixed-installation GPS systems that can become obsolete or require costly updates.
Drivers can also contribute to and benefit from a community alert system that provides real-time information on road conditions, including accidents, road obstacles, and speed check zones. This offers an extra layer of safety and efficiency. The app has a unique database of over 125,000 truck-friendly establishments across Europe, including, Secure parking areas, Roadside restaurants, Service stations that accommodate trucks and Garages and other delivery points
The tool is also marketed to haulage companies to boost operational efficiency and safety. For businesses, the GPS helps to mitigate risk by preventing navigation errors caused by using car-specific systems. Improve performance with more efficient and reliable routing.
